Games are big business, and games as they are right now come in all different shapes and sizes. There are some one-off games that have a huge impact when they are released and there are also those that not only have one, but several games under their belts, all with one theme, name or storyline.

Over the years there have been some game franchises that have really taken a hold of the world and not only have one or two games to boast of, but also an army of dedicated fans and a whole lot of merch too.

So, what are the biggest names in game franchises? Let’s take a look at some of the biggest.

Final Fantasy

One of the best known game franchises for fans of retro gaming, the first Final Fantasy game was released back in December of 1987. Since that time the games have sold around the 135 million mark around the world and have become famous for their immense and impressive nature.

Mario

Possibly the king of the franchise, this moustache wielding Italian plumber has sold well over 500 million games around the world since he burst into the gaming world. The impressive thing about Mario is that he is still going strong, in fact, thanks to the introduction of the Nintendo Switch, Mario has managed to capture a whole new army of fans that will keep his name going strong.

Minecraft

It might be a headache for some of the parents out there, but Minecraft is popular for a reason. It has only been around for a short time compared to some of the other games out there, however, in that time it has created an army of block loving fans who still love crafting and mining as much today as they always have. In fact, at last count Minecraft had sold well over 140 million games, which is a rather impressive feat in such a short time.

FIFA

Love or hate football, you cannot deny its popularity. The FIFA games just show this. Dating back to 1993, the FIFA games are released on a yearly basis and fans never fail to get excited about a new addition to the family. So much so that 150 million games have been sold across the globe.

The Sims

Who doesn’t love the idea of being able to control virtual people and their lives? This is the power that Sims brings and is probably why it has sold over 200 million games across the world. One of the most successful games on the PC there have been a number of games released as well as add ons and packs that can expand the gameplay and make it more appealing.

Thinking that you want to get yourself involved in a game franchise? Why not sell your Xbox 360 or other games console and invest some money in a big name in the gaming industry?
